Nuts-N-Bolts / Re: Wheel Bearings

1. How often are you guys going through wheel bearings?

2. What brand are you guys typically using?

3. Would a bad wheel bearing cause a vibration at higher speeds? There is a fine vibration above 50 MPH it gets worse as you get faster. Sounds like I have a Sub in the Jeep that is just playing a constant bass signal.

Thank you,
Ryean

1. It varies, but with 30k with wheeling (especially deep water/mud)  and larger tires and reduced backspacing, they could very well be bad.

2. Stay away from the economy brands like Duralast, go with Timken.

3. Yes, especially if the noise is proportional to speed, probably wheel bearings.

I'm 10 min away, so let me know if you need a hand or tools.

I've heard JK wheel bearings really really don't like mud....

I've rebuilt 2 Ax-15's. I was able to find the clearances on youtube in one of the videos I used for reference. If you can't find the info I can try to dig it up, it's been a while though.

I have a few questions.
I am really annoyed with myself I just recently replaced the Axle and all associated parts except the wheel bearings that had 30,000 miles on them. Now I think the bearings are going bad. Drove the jeep yesterday and a really god awful sound was coming from the front end. I completely over looked this. :swear_mad:

Good episode, for a little while there I was thinking maybe just maybe Rick would finally kill Negan.

Then I wasn't sure if Michonne was going to get it and then the Carl thing really surprised me.

Use the "sealed unit" master, slave and line assembly. It eliminates bleeding.
Other than that, it sounds like it spent too much of it's life with gear oil in it.

You would have to go way back to GL3 before you had a non destructive lube in there.
If your transmission was made before the mid 90's, its normal for them to shift lousy, especially in the cold.
That condition is what prompted the syncro ring material revision. They switched to a bronze material fixing the shifting problem, but since that transmission was on its way out and the NP was coming up, they never revised the documentation.
So everyone kept dumping in gear oil like the manual says.   The problem lies in the OIL also being revised. It contained detergents that dissolve the bronze material syncro rings.

Dope isn't it?     LOL

sure you got all the air out of the clutch system? It's not always that easy...

I’ve tried replacing the clutch hydraulics and clutch.  Red line gl4 fluid and even tried 10w-30.

Still still can’t get it to shift properly. 240k miles on it so I guess I’ll rebuild it

Any suggestions for installing the rebuild kit?  There are plenty of YouTube videos but they don’t cover any shimming or clearances
