Jeeps on Nantucket
« on: August 11, 2015, 06:27:42 PM »
Laura and I were on Nantucket on Saturday. Definitely a beautiful place. One cool thing is that there are Jeeps all over. Most I imagine just stay on the Island because during a brief "I'm going to bring Gorillacon to Natucket" moment, I found out that it cost about $500 to Ferry a vehicle to the Island.

Since Nantucket has no shortage of people with deep pockets, there were some nice restored Jeeps. I took pics of only some of the Jeeps and 4x4's  we saw.

It's expensive bringing the jeep on the ferry.  Holly & went for our 1st trip to Nantucket with the YJ in 1996.  The ferry was expensive, but the beach permit good for 1 year was $90 (expires June 15th the next year)  So we went June 1996, and came back for early June 1997 before it expired!  Got engaged next to the Jeep on the beach that year   We saved up all year to afford to go.  I had 4 permit stickers on my bumper when I replaced it in 2004!  (2003 was the last time we made the trip  :frown:)

Here's a pic from the beach in 1996...  Looking back - worst photo op ever   That salt water is the reason for all my frame rot!  :swear_mad:

By the way - this Defender 90 was on Nantucket back in 1996 when we were there!  Glad to see the salt air didn't kill it...

Terry, my father and I started taking photo's while on MV to make a similar post, not sure we ever did... Its cool to see some of the jeeps that are on the island.
You can get a Hummer in a Jeep, but you can't get a Jeep in a Hummer!
