I've got a posi in my dana 70.  If that doesn't work well enough (70 posi's are pretty tight), it's getting a spool.  All the buggy guys swear they are easier on the road than detroits.   Perfectly consistent.  plus usually cheap (not for a 70 though)

I like my OX locker.  Cable actuated, nice and simple. It just works

For a rear locker - I ran a detroit in my D44 rear and a Lock Rite rear in Md35 in my old YJ for the last decade...  I prefer the automatic locker in the rear...  some slight issues on pavement, but great on the trail...   My newer TJ has an ARB rear locker and a Detroit in the front - I ran it last season with just the front locker (I hadn't set up the rear ARB yet)

I found with just a front locked axle - if you get stopped on an incline, you wished the rar was locked

Whether you go chromoly or not, at least go to the upgraded spline count.

Higher spline count = larger shaft diameter = stronger shaft
and more contact area for the shaft to diff connection.

Are you planning on going larger than 35" tires?  If not you can stick with the stock spline count.

I only have a CJ-44 and run stock axles with 35s a 4x1 with 56s and a Lock Rite.  Never had an issue. I also run the stock axles in front , D30 with a Lock rite and never had an issue.  I believe its how you drive it.  Ive read a 44 lives with 37s and down.   JMO !    FjR68

I believe its how you drive it.

This!  I ran a Lock Rite with 4.56 gears for almost a decade on a D35!  Stay off the skinny pedal if it starts to hop...  (I always carried a spare set of axles just in case so I wouldn't be "that guy" that needed to be dragged off the trail on a log)
