Hello from Plainfield
« on: July 19, 2016, 10:09:07 AM »
Hello Everyone.  My name is Lisa.  My husband Chris and I are interested in joining a jeep club to have fun and find other Jeep owners to safely off road with.  Let me tell you a little bit about us.  We have a '12 Rubicon which originally belonged to my brother-in-law who loved off-roading.  He was a ER nurse so he needed a vehicle to get him to work in all weather...his car was his 'baby'.  Sadly he lost his battle with cancer in December and my husband and I bought his car.   One of the last things my brother-in-law did before he passed, was register for a 10th Annual Jeep Jamboree in Killington, VT.   Our family was able to transfer the registration to us and we took the kids on this off-roading vacation adventure in his honor.  We had such a great time, and learned so much (we had no idea what lockers were when we arrived so we had lots to learn, and still do...)   My only regret is I didn't get a chance to drive (I let hubby have all the fun since this was the first time) but I hope to get a chance to try some off-road driving myself in the future.   Anyway, I look forward to getting to know some of you.  We can't make the M&G tonight but hope to be able to make it to the one in Salem next month.

Also, does anyone know how to change this pic into an Avatar?  I tried and it said the file is to large or it is not an Avatar....I am not sure how to do that?

Hi Lisa, Welcome. Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. I believe at least 1 of our members was at the Killington Jam. Definitely come to the M&G in Salem next month.

You have to reduce the size of the image. I think it's 100 wide?

That and do some voodoo, the avatar feature is flaky.

Welcome!  So sorry for your loss, but what a great way to honor his memory.

The images for profile avatars need to be 150 x 150 pixels or smaller if I recall correctly.

Thanks you for the welcome and the info on the Avatar.  I will work on seeing if I can figure out how to resize it.  My hubby got me a MacBook for Christmas and I am still figuring out how to work it...LOL

I would love to know how long have you all been in the club and what is your favorite thing about it?

Thank your for your condolences.  Going to the Jeep Jamboree was definitely a wonderful way to honor him and I know he would be happy his brother will be taking care of his 'baby' and having fun with it.  If he had not signed up for that Jamboree, we never would have been introduced to off roading.  I know my husband heard about this club as there were several people from CT that we met over the weekend.  We also heard about the Jeep event in Ellington in September.  We hope to attend that too.

I have been part of this club since 2006. OMG 10 years with these characters! I say that jokingly, because my favorite thing about this club is the people. Simply put, we take care of each other.

Welcome!! Same situation here. Bought a new JKU...stock. No idea what lockers, rockers, etc. are. Just reading through the forums you can learn a lot. These guys (and girls) have a wealth of info to share.

Howdy! Condolences for your loss, glad his spirit motivated you to do something that he loved and got you hooked!

I've been a part of the club for 7 years, the people and knowledge are amazing, the motto of "leave no jeep behind" on the trail has major educational opportunities!

Thank you everyone for the great responses.  I can't wait to meet everyone at the Aug M&G.  I have enjoyed lurking around and reading the boards.  There is such a wealth of knowledge, it is overwhelming.  I showed my hubby, Chris the info on the Moab trip and that is something that could interest us.  We love to travel.  Of course we would need to acutally join the club first and have some more off-roading practice under our belt but it sounds amazing.  So do many of the member's have kids they bring on the trails with them?  Our daughter is 12 and our son is 11 and they would love if other kids close to their age were around.  Also, I know you can't promote trails on public forums but what area's do you off-road in?  It seems like CT is not very friendly to off-roading so do you usually travel out of state for your monthly rides?

Thank you for sharing your story with us tonight.  It was touching and so true that Jeeps carry memories.

It was great meeting you all tonight at the meet & greet.  We had a great time!!!  I look forward to getting to know you all better.  I am shy by nature and continuously working on breaking out of my shell.  I appreciate you all for making me feel so comfortable.

So I heard about Fall Crawl at a Jeep Jam in MA yesterday.  Is this club involved with NEOW and going?  It looks like it would be a lot of fun.

Welcome.
Your story about your brother is extremely touching. Sorry for your loss. I think it's great to memorialize him by continuing the Jeeping! He'd be thrilled, I'll bet.

Looking forward to meeting you and yes, the people here are fantastic. You'll make some amazing memories with this bunch!

Just browse the forum for proof of the adventures.
