Hello From Enfield
« on: March 21, 2017, 08:57:06 PM »
Hello All,

My name is Ian and I've met some of you through a tail cutting day and a meet and greet at Wood n' Tap.  I am roommates with Jeremy (RedJeepster1) and have been interested in joining NE Jeep since he became a member.  This past November I purchased my first Jeep, a 2001 XJ Cherokee in emerald green.  Originally it was 2wd but since purchasing I have swapped in 4wd.  I have also installed a 2 in lift and an Aussie Locker in the rear axle.  I'm looking forward to taking it out on the trails with you guys and have some pretty big plans for it.   Its a great base platform for me as it came from Virginia and has absolutely no rust at all.

I'm a mechanical engineer and am very much a car guy but have only recently gotten into off-roading.  In school I was heavily involved in an SAE Baja team and have now moved up to full size off-road vehicles.  Throughout my life I've ridden dirt bikes though trails but this will be the first four wheel vehicle I will be trail riding with.

I am looking forward to getting out on the trails with you guys really soon as my jeep is ready to go.  This past weekend I welded in frame stiffeners and am now looking at installing rock sliders in the very near future (trying to protect the rocker panels while I still have them).

Hope to see some of you very soon!

Thanks,
Ian

You've got a great vehicle started.  You'll be very surprised at the capabilities as you have it setup.  Rocker protection will do you wonders in keeping it closer to pristine.
OMG, this guys avatar may get me in trouble at work.  Not the personal use of company property, I'm safe there.  Its his avatar that's going to get me in trouble.  Phew its gone, now I can get back to screwing off on company time!!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!  An update on my jeep, I finally did weld in the stiffeners and the rock sliders are being made as we speak. It's been pretty handy throughout the tail end of winter to have this jeep and especially actually having 4wd.    But I'm completely ready for spring and to actually take this thing on some trails!  I have a feeling that the xj will change (for the better) quite a bit over the next couple seasons...
