Need a good transmission shop western CT
« on: April 05, 2017, 09:01:00 AM »
Hey guys,
Transmission on my Ranger is blown. Dunno if it would be cheaper to rebuild or replace. Won't go in Drive, only 2nd gear and reverse work. Need a shop close(ish) to me (Newtown). Anyone know of a reputable shop that won't screw me on the project?
Thanks

Many times its the valve body gasket fixes it.

What year ranger ? have you checked it with a good code reader ? could be a range selector switch or a bad solenoid. those are fairly good transmissions, I wouldn't assume its blown. If it has reverse it should have 1st, they work off the same drum.

If its a v6 ranger aftermarket is very slim for that tranny, your better off buying a good used out of a junk yard

Don't know how far your willing to travel but Hi-Tech transmissions in East Longmeadow MA is a great shop.  I've gone there for all my trans needs and they are very quick, very experienced and have reasonable prices.

It's an 07 4cyl 2wd auto. Was shifting hard 1st-2nd for a little while. Tried Lucas. At times you would be stopped at a light and it wouldn't go until you shifted back to park and then to Drive again...or sometimes you'd have to put it in Park and cut the engine and start it back up. When the gear selector is in Park or Drive all you hear is a spinning sound. Only gear that works is Reverse and 2nd

My Explorer Spot Trac had the same 5spd auto I believe.  What your describing sounds like the repair I went through. Check that there isnt a silent recall for this. My Trans guy knew about it. They have an upgraded one piece shift solenoid gasket to replace the multi layered one that delaminates  through time , Mine was just over 100k when it started for me.   Hope you get it fixed    FjR68

X2 on Jerry's - they did a great job on my YJ's transmission in 1997.  20 years later and it's still going strong!
