Anyone spray their yard for ticks?
« on: April 29, 2017, 12:18:38 PM »
Well I think I have spent a total of about 10min outside the past two days and have already found a tick on me each day. I am looking into having the yard sprayed and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it. Like how often do you need to respray ect. Thanks in advance.

Most of the time the products we can buy on the shelf only hold up to 5% of the active ingredient . Id call a landscape  Co. in your area and have them apply it. They are licensed applicators and the content is by far better.  I would guess between 50 and 80 buks and you dont have to do anything.   Mine is done and a second round will be in July .    FjR68

EB did our years ago, when we moved in.
Haven't had it done since,  but might reconsider this year.

Both myself and my wife have been bitten inside the same week. She found hers right away. Mine was well on its way burrowing in on the backside of my knee where I couldn't see it. Bite looks ok after a week. It's rare for one to escape detection on me.
I cant feel the tiny deer ticks crawling like the bigger dog ticks.
We have free range chickens you would think would have an impact . Not this year.

I set my yard on fire this weekend  I've been outside quite a bit and each time I've had a tick on me. Luckily they were the large ticks, not the small red deer ticks, but this is the first year I've ever had them in my yard. I live in a pine grove and have heard they don't like the acidic soil from the pines, don't know if that's factual or not, but I usually don't have them.

So I had some brush to burn and decided to burn some of the areas that had dead grass and scraggly brush. If it didn't kill them, it might have at least driven them away.

The only benefit of not having a yard full of grass.... (Yet)

There is a fertilizer with Seven added, I plan on giving that a try once I have grass

Yeah but wouldnt be happy with the predators they would attract. Seen several fox and fisher cats and know we have bobcats, coyotes ect.

So I had the TickGuy come out and give me an estimate

http://www.thetickguy.com/

$85 per spray;  4 sprays per year. (3 in the spring/1 in the fall)

They are going to spray around the deck; shed; and property.
And since Ty's playscape is close to the tree line.   They are going to spray 30' into the woods.

They have neighborhood discounts too.

I think Bic posted this a few years back.

As John Josselyn wrote in 1670,
"there be infinite numbers of tikes hanging upon the bushes in summer time that will cleave to man's garments
and creep into his breeches eating themselves in a short time into the very flesh of a man.
I have seen the stockins of those that have gone through the woods covered with them."

before the DDT insecticide ban in 1972 we had no tick problems in CT at all (after that we had Lyme Disease problems...) DDT was successful to control malaria, typhus, body lice, and bubonic plague...

My parent's swore by the stuff and probably still have some at their house

I never had a tick bite and got Lyme disease until a 2004 Jeep Jamboree in the PA Poconos - I got really sick and lost 40 lbs in a bad way
