AC question
« on: June 29, 2017, 12:50:32 PM »
The truck AC is dead again.

Last year or year before I replaced the accumulator and orifice tube, and replaced all O rings and hoses, and flushed the system with AC system flush (home job flush)

My AC worked for about a month but then crapped out again. I filled it with UV dye but couldn't find a leak

I pulled the Orifice tube to find a collection of debris on it, not as bad as before but pretty junky.

I took a pic and noticed small metal flakes in it, I'm betting it's the compressor that's shot.

So I was thinking about replacing the compressor and having Matt at Protech flush and recharge it.

Here is a small sample of what I cleaned off the orifice tube.

Ya I also debated just replacing the condenser and evap core and compressor and calling it a day.
Not sure if it's worth it to flush

No debris should be in the system . Also there was no mention on a vacuum pull down before charging . Also on an evacuated , flushed system you would need also to add lubricant for the compressor . Introducing a vacuum is to remove any moister and a good way to test for leaks before recharging. If it wasnt vacuumed , your adding refrigerant to atmosphere in the system and it wont allow enough Freon to be able to stand a load.  Hope this helps .   FjR68

Ya I know, that's why I'm leaning towards replacing it all, and starting fresh.

I pulled a vacuum and added the correct weight oil.

Roll down the windows and/or take the top off.  Save a few $$.

I ordered all new parts, less than 300 bucks for all the stuff.

Still cheaper than a shop would charge me, and hopefully once I fill it, it will be worry free for a long time
