My jeep will never see the road again.  I will most likely also have to get a new truck.

I assume you guys will be next or soon

That's amazing!!

If I move to Maine I'll have to pass an inspection but no more emissions. That will make life easier come engine swap time

At what age does a vehicle become exempt from inspections in MA?

I think antiques are only exempt from emissions not inspection

From what I am hearing nothing is exempt.   All original equipment must be in place.  They take pictures and upload.  They spot check everything electronically.  Lift law is 2 up or down including tires

It's all the car manufacturers lobbying that's pushing this through, they don't want old cars on the road.

Look what cash for clunkers did for the used car market, besides there is nothing "green" about destroying a perfectly good vehicle to replace it with a new one, in fact it's the complete opposite.

Texas has had inspections since I was a kid, but they were only looking for brakes, turn signals, horn, non cracked windshield. High low beams, but that's because cars would last so long from not rotting out, it kept people from driving complete shit boxes lol

There's a math equation that takes wheel base into consideration. I know a JK works out to be 2 1/2" lift.

I guess nothing changes except the state is spending 29 million of our own dollars to surveil us  ridiculous. They outta just put is in pods now and suck our productivity out thru tubes. I'm 2 steps closer to selling my business and leaving this corner of the country.

and yes 540 CMR 6.0 is still the law, I have a printout in my glovebox that I've shown to inspectors before (to mostly blank stares) http://www.mass.gov/courts/docs/lawlib/500-599cmr/540cmr6.pdf

So to pass you would essentially have to put your rig back to stock for the yearly inspection...  What a pain in the ass.  My TJ wouldn't pass - what's stock bottom of the door height on a TJ?  Mines 34"

Sounds like they are targeting cat back exhausts and cold air intakes too!

How did Broken's XJ ever pass inspection?  Or was it just a trailered rig?

Before I'm sure people could have their friend Benjamin help with the inspection.

Few years ago, Megs brother bought a diesel pickup that already had the DPf delete. Never had an issue living in mass but now he may sell it. Since it was already done, he doesnt have any of the parts.... priced out over $3K in parts alone to reinstate just for a photo seeing its there....
I have no idea what I'm doing... but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Thankfully for me CT doesn't have yearly inspections other than emissions (just a test on the OBD2 port for 1996+)

But if stopped by law enforcement or trying to register a "totaled" or out of state vehicle -

Connecticut
(Connecticut Statutes Chapter 246, Title 14; Connecticut DMV Regulations)
Summary:
4-inch lift limit, no softer- or lighter-than-OE springs, no aftermarket shocks that reach their extended stroke limit.

Headlamps (§14-96b):
Mounted height not more than 54 inches nor less than 22 inches.

Tailamps (§14-96c):
Mounted height of not more than 72 inches nor less than 15 inches.

Steering Linkage (§14-80b):
"No person shall install or attach to the ball joints or tie rod ends of a motor vehicle any type of bushing, spring, shim or device which results in concealing the degree of play or motion in the ball joints or tie rod ends."

Suspension/Chassis (§14-137-25):
"No suspension system component shall be replaced unless such replacement component meets or exceeds the quality and performance standards established by the vehicle manufacturer and the safe operating characteristics of the vehicle on which such replacement component is installed are not adversely affected by such installation."

Height Limitations:
"No additional devices shall be installed or equipment substitutions made at any location on any motor vehicle when such installation or addition ... raises the sprung portion of the vehicle in excess of 4 inches above the vehicle's unladen height as established by the vehicle manufacturer ..."

Spring Replacement:
"No suspension springs which have a load carrying capacity or spring rate below that specified by the vehicle manufacturer shall be installed on any vehicle."

Shock Absorber Limitation:
"No shock absorber shall be installed in any manner which will allow it to reach its extreme stroke limitation while the vehicle is being operated."

Wheel Track:
"No modification of a vehicle suspension system geometry shall result in any reduction of such vehicle's wheel track distance."

So in CT I may be in compliance with the height limitations since my 4.5" springs have sagged below the 4" threshold, head lights are below 54" and tail lights are below 5 feet!  But the Spring Clause could get me in trouble  :rotflmao: "Spring Replacement:
No suspension springs which have a load carrying capacity or spring rate below that specified by the vehicle manufacturer shall be installed on any vehicle."

Oh yeah sure my spring rate is the same  :rotflmao: my shocks only see full stroke off road and for geometry well....

I just went in last month and got a new red rejection sticker. Red is safety, and Black is fix it in 2 months.
BrokenXJ inspection was lapsed, like 6-7 years, maybe more. MA hasn't tied inspection to the registry, Yet.
