Thanks guys. Haven’t measured the wheelbase center to center, but it’s about 2” more than stock. So like 103-104? They are a little over 101 stock I think.

I was gonna save my comments until you were done...  Very nice job! I'm quite impressed, and can't wait to check it out this weekend.

I hope that are going to drive this Jeep in the rain,  because it would be a terrible waste of a silver XJ if you don't.

SO...... your saying, MUD is definitely out of the question. If you CT guys are going to build these California Jeeps, you should move there.  Alan drained Soggy Bottom because you guys don't want to get your Jeeps dirty.

Mud is fine, I found a decent amount this weekend. Salt is what is out of the question. Salt means rust.

Not too much. Wouldn’t go into low range at first so it was running hot. When we stopped, I disconnected the linkage and shifted it by hand. After that it was good. My rear shocks are too long so I’ll have to address that. And I have plenty of finishing stuff to do that I put off because it wasn’t needed for the trip. Overall it went everywhere I wanted it to though and never let me down, so I’m happy.

So since it started snowing, I pulled the Jeep off the road for the winter. If I can help it, it won’t see asphalt until the spring.

Anyway, Thursday I started my next project. Plan is to have the winch sitting behind the stock front bumper, with nothing visible except the fairlead, cable and hook going to a d ring.

The winch will actually sit slightly lower than that, but will still be basically invisible below the bumper. I am also planning to work a steering box brace into the design, so it will be very stiffly mounted to the front of the frame, bolting through my stiffeners in multiple places. Steering box brace will be a pillow block bearing supporting the shaft below the pitman arm with a bearing from boostworks. Here’s the current cad model, steering brace, fairlead mount, and d rig mounts not currently included. Only into the project about 2 hours so far though. Fairlead will be supported by the winch mount, but bolted through the front bumper to keep everything thoroughly hidden and prevent the bumper from actually taking any load.

Very cool. I like hiding things so only a gearhead can find them.

You mean the one that has said “coming soon” since around this time last year? Very familiar with it. My neighbor runs their steering brace. If they actually released that product I’d probably buy it and save myself some time.

Yes  :rotflmao: and yes

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1145323

Just looked up that thread again to see that they are shipping pre production models. I wanted to see it mount a little higher though.. and I have a slightly different plan for the fairlead mount. Glad they are finally getting that product out the door though. Lots of people have been waiting on it. Looks like I’ll keep working on my own setup.

That thing is pretty sweet. The steering brace part is similar in design to the braces for 2nd Gen Dodges.
