Look at the pinion compares to the springs and brackets. This is why they tell you to weld the 8.8 tubes to the housing.

That picture brings back bad memories for me. I did a neutral drop in my 1975 Camaro. I heard the bang and looked under and saw that.  :eek:

I haven't heard that term in decades!  Did a few of those in my mothers big block Oldsmobile station wagon when I was a kid - broke the motor mounts...

I always thought spinning the tubes on an 8.8 was a myth

so what fails the rosette welds ? cast housing is too thin ?

They are pressed in and then two puddle welds you see in the circles near the ends of the diff section .  This Jeep did several big hops on a ledge , uphill . It loaded so hard it spun the diff ,broke the U-joint and we had to remove the shaft and flange to clear the floor boards to get it out of the woods.   FjR68
