Broken Craftsman swap out
« on: December 04, 2017, 08:56:24 PM »
I broke a brand new Craftsman 3/8 screwdriver this weekend prying up the tab on the front wheel bearing lock washer.  It's a job I've done a hundred times with no problem.  Took it back to sears in Manchester and the tool guy laughed.  He said they haven't gotten any single tools for swapping in over a month.  They wouldn't break up a new set and basically said I was S.O.L. until they get some in.

I thought someone had told me that Home Cheapo would swap out broken Craftsman tools for Husky.  The tool guy there said if they did that they would have line out the door.

Any thoughts?

Pretty sure they are cutting their losses since they are all closing in the near future

Sears hasn't owned crapsman  in a long time.

Home Depot offered the swap a few years ago promoting the Husky line. Not sure if they are dtill doing it. See ig Craftsman has an on line swap option.

The few times I've tried to swap a broken craftsman they've always told me "sorry we can't break up a set, try calling the national headquarters" (which is a feedback loop of dead end recorded messages btw). Seems to me they're trained to say that?

I have 4 broken Craftsman tools I've been holding on to, 3/8 socket wrench, 1/4 socket wrench, T40 torx socket and a 8mm gear wrench...maybe I'll try again.

I'm gonna sound old, but back in the day it was no questions asked.  I usually went to the Sears in Buckland Mall.  Never had an issue.

Right before I left, I went to the Sears Hardware in Willimantic and had no problems with swapping out a couple of screwdrivers and a ratchet.

Go buy the set that has your tool in it.
Take it home, swap in the broken tool.
Bring the set back and swap the whole set.
Return new set for your cash back.
 Done.

I'm sure they won't do that either though...   :rotflmao:

Ding, Ding, Ding,  We have a winner.  No problem swapping out anything they have in stock.  They had a nice selection of individual tools.

Good! They're a great hardware store, usually have what you need, although a little pricey, hence the nickname "Larceny" hardware! lol

I have a 3/8" ratchet I had in high school.  I took it apart - just need to find a rebuild kit for it...  Sears used to repair them before they started swapping them
