phones/devices
« on: December 20, 2017, 07:30:15 PM »
I want a new one.
Why are Windows phones not popular? Is it because Windows 8 sucks that bad?
Why are droids the most popular?
What is the difference between cdma or gsm networks? Why care?
My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

Windows phones aren't as popular because there are not as many apps available. Android and iPhone are your two standards. People that have iPhone love them, and people that have Android phones that hate the iPhone. I have always owned an android, currently an LG G4 (it's an older model because it's technology that's 4 years old now).

Things I like about my phone over the iPhone 6:
Better camera
Removable and expandable storage.
Replaceable battery
IR beam to use as a universal remote

Things I like about the iPhone:
Longer battery life

I used to have Adroid phones back when I liked to geek out and totally customize stuff. Now my life is more complicated I enjoy simplicity. Hell, most of my ringtones are still stock settings. Also like how fluid it is with my iPad.

Don't worry about cdma vs. Gsm. different carriers use one or the other, but it won't matter to you. Just pick a carrier you like.

Androids and iPhones are both great,  it's just a matter of personal preference. I used androids but support iPhones at work, I can't really knock either.

Windows phones are a joke, dont bother with em. Same as BlackBerry.

Android is just native to how I think.  Iphone everything is backwards or nearly impossible.  every day I use an Ipad and Iphone and hate every minute of it

I was a former Blackberry guy - it was my 1st "smart phone" (yes I'm that old!)  Started with Android with the original DROID back in 2010.  Back in the beginning - Apple was more supported with apps, but these days Android and Apple both have huge support with apps.

Android is pretty much open source where iPhones are proprietary...  The Android OS updates are consistent and old Android devices with old OS systems still run fine (my original Droid 4.0 OS works fine along with my newest 7.0 OS one)

I've been in the cellular phone game since the beginning...  As far as networks go - Verizon is second to none for coverage and all modern phones that work on their network in the US (CDMA) have a "Global" setting that works on GSM...

Battery Life on Android seems to be superior - every airport or bar you see someone with an iPhone white proprietary charging cable & charger plugged in (all Android phones use a standard micro USB cable to charge these days)

Just my experience in the cell phone world since the 1900's

Wow that picture brings back memories! I didn't have a suitcase phone but my mom did. My first phone was an indestructible Nokia. It was considered the hot $hit because it would automatically switch to digital service when available. hahaha

Wow, that video is great, and clearly we've come a long way. I can't imagine having my friend carry the other half of my phone as  we walked across the beach because it was too heavy.

I see a "Star Tac" in that pic. It worked where no other phone worked. It was the best phone I ever had ----- All 3 of them.  Went android cause thats what the kids have/had and I knew they could teach me.  I now have the  "Google Pixel" and it has the droid system but there were differences I had to get used to. For someone not savy with hightec , the droid fits me well.  FjR68
