hi lift mount location
« on: January 07, 2018, 08:23:35 PM »
anyone mounting their hi lift to their hood?...Looking into getting a hard top but once thats on the hi lift will no longer fit on the roll bars (unless i fabricate something) and it will hit the window if i put it on the tire carrier (35 takes up most of the room)...anyways just looking for ideas..

I have it on my hood. I can no longer open my hood back to the windshield. I'm gonna move it the tire carrier once I relocate the mounts so it fits right. Definitely not a fan of it being on the hood. Looks nice there but I miss opening the hood all the way.

Most will probably say try and mount it in the jeep to avoid rust and it not working easily on the trail

Mines mounted to my HDJeep/Teraflex tire carrier. Fits fine with my 34ish inch tire.

Yeah mines is on the tire carrier as well. I know there's ways to get it to fit inside but you start loosing space quickly in a 2dr if keeping back seat.

Mines on the tire carrier too. It stays in the house unless we are on the trail.

Front Bumper and Hood mounts are the worst in my opinion...  I switched from front bumper mount to rear tire carrier mount in 2003 (anything front mounted on a daily driver get's killed with crap off the road)

Since my rig is lifted and on 35's I need a HiLift just to change a flat tire on the side of the road - so I oil it and check operation every couple months.  You can make a mount inside attaching horizontally across the rear roll bars with muffler clamps...

Look at the space near the floor right in front of the back seat. It fits across nicely where the cage comes to the floor , fab mounts , can still use the back seat !   FjR68

I made lockable mounts, mounted to the rear wheel wells, just inside the tailgate behind the roll bar flange. I prefer hiding everything and avoid displaying my gear. Even with the top off, you have to get close and look for it. I also have extra gear tied down on it (come-a-long, drag bar/tie rods, etc.).

Daily, i carry a Norco 12 ton bottle jack, which fits perfectly in the JK console well, albeit upside down. It takes every last cubic inch in there and the handle is in the drivers seat back. That, plus a 2 inch board is enough to change a tire no problem. Here's the link to the jack: http://www.tooldiscounter.com/ItemDisplay.cfm?lookup=NOR76412A
