np203 transfer case overhaul kit
« on: January 30, 2018, 11:47:23 AM »
Any suggestions for a overhaul kit for a np203 out of a 78 Dodge? Rockauto has a USA STANDARD GEAR ZTBK203G or Timken TCRK203G.

Is it worth modifying it to part time 4wd?

I have a lot of parts from the 203 that I used for the donor for my doubler set up. Let me know if you need anything

So the more I look into this I realize the the 203 is a fulltime 4wd drive case and my truck doesn't have manual hubs. So that's not great.

Mile Marker makes a conversion kit that makes the truck part time 4wd, but you need manual hubs on the front axle.

No one makes manual hubs for a dodge HD44, I want manual hubs regardless of the tcase being fulltime or part time. I've read that you can convert the dodge axle to user ford or chevy hubs, but didn't see anything with specifics.

Anyone got any ideas on the converting the dodge axle to ford/chevy parts?

Never mind, apparently you can't unlock the front with that transfercase, it has what amounts to a front/rear limited slip inside. They do make some sort of mod kit though.

Yea, there are a ton of options for swaps. I'm not looking to do that

Do you have to change the whole spindle assembly, or just take off a plate and add a hub?

See if one of Tom's 44 hubs will fit.  I have some spare Chevy 44 hubs I bought for the Black Jeep that don't fit.

needs to change the cone at a minimum most likely the whole outer c from the balljoint/ujoint center line.   need to figure out which set up will work with his steering/spring if he has to do the whole c

Thanks for the replies.

So from what I've read on ramchargercentral, a Knuckle out swap is needed. 80-93 dodge donors are preferred but some gm's will work as well.

So what is knuckle out? knuckles, rotors, pads, calipers, outer axle stubs, spindles, hubs.

What else am I missing?

Also check that ball joints are the same, when I did the WJ knuckles on my XJ d30, I had to change the ball joints because the taper was different.

Dana is pretty interchangeable . Some of the Dodge axles (after switch to left side) are no longer capable of excepting   other mfg outers.  Key is to measure the height of the inner -C- to see what you can use. Most used parts would be Ford and retain the same bolt pattern . Its everything from the U-Joint out.     FjR68
