need help trailer length
« on: February 06, 2018, 09:00:36 AM »
this is more of a Sanity check

Im about ready to pull the trigger on a new trailer. after many quotes appilacian trailer has come back with a price, weight and overall trailer that I like.

What im strugging with is length. My camper is 8.5 feet long from front edge to back door. the jeep is 13 feet front to back bumper including trailer hitch.

this would make the bare minimum trailer 21.5 feet long. however with the jeep on the trailer I would like to open the camper door. the door is 18 '' roughly. that makes 23 feet.

would a 24 foot trailer be cutting it too close. or should i nut up and get 26. its about 100 dollars per food difference since its a custon order.

Thanks in advance

Go with the bigger one. You’ll need room for straps on the Jeep and for $100 it’s worth the piece of mind.

I would go with the 26 foot trailer. You just don't know what the future may hold, but you'll be kicking yourself if you end up with a different rig or a different camper and it doesn't fit anymore. It would also be nice to have a solid 2 feet between the Jeep and the camper when trying to get out the door. If Becca's bag gets covered in mud because the Jeep was parked too close when she walked out of the camper, you'll wish you went for the extra length.

Do you have the room to store a trailer that size?

Go bigger. Now that you are taking the camper off the truck you may decide you want more room in the camper and get a longer one

Have the trailer built to put the camper on top of the 5th wheel.  Then your "deck" should be big enough....
