When I turn the Jeep on, the oil pressure gauge reads about 45/50 PSI. As I drive and pick up the RPM'S the gauge will get pinned at 80 PSI... at an idel it will drop back to 40 - 45 PSI...... is this real problem? Could it be the gauge?

What should I look for... or not worry until it reads really low.....

Fresh oil change and filter last night just make sure nothing going on there... and it still is acting funny (80 PSI) today

just the sending unit.. Common problem nothing to be concerned about. My old Yj and TJ would both drop to zero at idle and 80 when running down the highway. I have heard many complain of this. You could buy a new sending unit for 27 dollars but in a few months it will do the same anyways.

OK - I'll bite. Why do say it will just happen all over again in a few months if I replace it?

go aftermarket, in line mechanical guage. It'll be cool

I'm waiting for my gauges to go so that I have an excuse for the custom dash that I want to put in

Don't forget about the gauge pod on the A-piller and a must have Boost gauge

yeah and that fuel air mixture one that just blinks red orange and green, it adds like 40 horsepower pluse 5 horse per sticker and they make euro lights for jeeps too

yup prob a sender but if you are seriously concidering putting one of those a-piller guage clusters up just be sure you get guages with dim lights the cluster puts the guages in the best spot possible to kill you night vission.

Which engine? The 4.0L if it's reading 80 the sender might be bad. If it's actually achieving 80 PSI, then that is bad. 60 PSI is when the Oil pump start using the bypass.

Food for thought
