a newbie, in the middle of a 95 YJ restoration!

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this forum, a buddy of mine told me that I should join a Jeep Club, so here I am.

I'm not a car guy either so I will be learning a lot real quick, so please excuse me if I don't know the difference between a lug nut and a drive shaft....JK, I know that much.

I have a 95 YJ - the one with square head lights and rare colors!
Mine is Bright Mango, although now it has more spots of primer than Mango, let's say this Mango was starting to rot.

It has over 230(k) and the engine was running great, the rust & rot was spotty but getting worse.
The leaf springs, suspension and basically everything else down under was in REALLY bad shape.
There was a hole big enough for 2 of my fists to fit through the frame.

I had a friend who was helping me with it, the plan was for him to finish it, but unfortunately the last couple of months were not good to him.
I'm forced to finish this all by myself and I'm going to need some serious HELP!

In return, (if your still reading and interested in helping)
- I'm willing to hire for fair price
- I have access to 70 acres of private land that you can play on.
- I'll even baby site your dog!

What do I need?
- I need the lift to be finished - Sway Bar links are not connected, dunno what else?
- Engine needs to be checked - I'm not sure what he did or what's left (at the moment the serpentine belt & fan have been removed)
- 90% of the body work is DONE - it's almost ready for PAINT!
- Both sets of Full & Half Doors - need some minor repairs, and then PAINT!
- I've saved all the misc parts that I took off the Jeep (Lights, Clasps, Fenders, etc)
- I'll probably have to find some replacements for any broken or missing.
- Seats, dashboard, & console are all in great shape - no rips, just minor stains.

That's about sums it all up - please I'm open to any suggestions - like should I paint the whole undercarriage black or find misc pieces to paint to match the body color?  Now, before I paint is there's anything I should think of before it's too late?

Thanks in advance.

70 acres of private land you say? In CT?  Definitely try to get out to a meet and great soon. Lots of people around here that can give a helping hand when needed.

welcome,

Can you post pictures of the jeep? are you looking to be part of the rebuild process or pretty much turn key?

where are you located?

Are you looking to join a jeep club for help / or interested in going offroading and adventuring once the jeep is trail worthy?

How did you find us ?

Welcome, everything Nik B. said.

Post pics. There's only a couple of us leaf springers left. Most moved on to those slinky springs.

Welcome,  I'm a leaf springer too.

With stiffer lift springs you won't be needing the sway bars.  Is the motor a 4 cylinder or 6?

Thanks everyone for the replies, questions, & comments.

1 - There's a bunch of pictures here in Facebook --> https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10165632649775089&type=3

2 - Itchy McStratch face - 70 acres of private land - Yes in Plymouth CT to be exact, we currently Hike, Hunt, Camp, and ATV on the land.

3 - Nik B - My buddy was gonna do everything for me (TurnKey) now for budget purposes I don't mind getting my hands dirty with some of the easier stuff.  Me and the Jeep can be found in downtown Southington, I welcome visitors and advice.  Once my Jeep is road worthy I wouldn't mind being part of a club, but as far as off-roading...I don't plan on it, unless it's very very light off-roading...like a sandy beach, cleaner\easier trails. My buddy who told me to Join....his name is Art Van M. - he has a Rock Crawler\Off Roader and he's out of RI - he told me that I'm gonna be known as a Mall Crawler or something like that - I'm ok with it.

4 - King of the Hill - My Jeep has a little 4 cylinder engine, hence why I'm not keen on off-roading, just cruising around with my 2 boys.
As it stands today the 230(k) plus miles have been all easy high-way miles, little to zero off-roading miles.

Thanks

That little 4 cylinder will get ya plenty of places. Mine does better offroad than on the highway.

Don't be afraid of the 4 angry squirrels.  There are some very capable 4 poppers in the club.  Some how, most of them seem to be black.

Having been pulled over, off of, or through things by at least 3 of the 4 cylinders in the club repeatedly I can attest that they are quite capable off road.  Seems like it’s just at highway speeds the other 2 cylinders really come in handy.

The club wheels on easy trails in the woods as well as some class 6 roads.  It isn't paved roads but it is definately not an axle breaking rock garden either.  You will definitely be amazed at what a stock jeep can do.  Until recently, I was only on 31's in a basically bone stock XJ and wheeled that way for 2 years without too much difficulty.  I would say see if you can make it to a wheeling event and ride shotgun with someone to get a feel for what we do.  I did that and was hooked immediately!

Although I have a 6 cylinder, I still have 290k on mine, just food for thought.
