Are welded front bumpstops on certain years of XJ's?

I was able to score a set of ACOS (Thanks Bull!). I'm in DC right now, or I would look for myself , but the instructions say that some Jeeps have welded on bumpstop holders. If it is welded, there are a few more steps to the install (cutting, grinding, painting, drilling and tapping).

What I'm trying to figure out (With the Jeep being in a Parking Lot at Bradley) is whether or not my XJ has welded bumpstop holders. Is it an XJ - TJ - ZJ thing? Or is it certain years that have these welded or is it just random? Mines a '98 XJ.

Thanks.

I'd have to check, but I think mine is welded on.  It's a 93.
I'll let you know in a little while.

Checked on the bumpstop holders in my 93 xj.
Welded on. The bump stop presses into place, but there is no threaded-on parts.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but mine seemed to come with the towing, and offraod package from the factory.
Maybe they welded the bumpstop holders instead of bolting to make it more rugged?  :why:

Cool, glad you  got those Rey.  I also said Id buy them too for ya if you needed them.  Parts is parts....and I love parts......Bull.

Thanks again Bull. They should be here on Monday. They lost the bumpstops so I had to order new ones from JKS, but I hope to have them in by next week.

I put these on my MJ a month or so back. NICE product, like all JKS stuff, quality!!

Any how, on my 89 they simply unscrewed, I did not even need to remove the bumpstop. Stillson wrench worked best for me!! On my TJ, a 99 the bump stops needed to be removed then you could stick a socket on an extention up inside and remove the "cup".  I have seen a number welded on, seems to be the fist couple years of the HO XJ's.

There is a number of good writeups on the install. here is one I found quickly:

Good luck!!

cwlongshot, Thanks for the links.

Well, I was waiting for the new bumpstops from JKS (came today), and I dove in ready for a relatively quick install and DAMMIT the bumpstop holders on my 98 XJ Sport are Welded!

Not too big of a deal, but so much for trying to figure out my original question.  I have a cut off wheel except that it's the kind that attaches to a drill and my cordless drill batteries both crapped out. Off to Home Depot for a new Ryobi 18V battery and a 10mm x 1.5p tap...
