I'm wondering what would be the cheapest/easiest way to get my front end regeared with 4.10's. I have a TJ with the stock Dana 30 and 3.07 gears. Would it be cheaper to have a shop regear my current Dana 30 or should I try to buy a complete 30 from a 4 banger TJ with 4.10's already in it. That would be the easiest I think to swap one for the other and I've seen them for sale fairly cheap but then you have to factor in shipping costs. What do you guys think???

Get a cherokee front with 4:10s. High pinion, reverse rotation (stronger in front) and it's a complete bolt in. I just bought one for $150. You also get the added bonus of spare shafts, unit bearings and knuckles from your tj. Look for a non-disco. Try using this search http://www.car-part.com/ Hope this helps....Rich

Thanks guys. Is that a common gear ratio for XJ's? I'll start looking around.

The one I got had 3:55's, much easier to find and cheaper. The 4:10's are out there, you just have to look a little harder.

How about a 8 1/4 rear Swap? There stronger then the 35 Right?
The middle of 96 they started to come with 29 spline axles campred to the 27 spline in the mid 96 and older. The 29 spline ones are comparable to a dana 44 in strength.
4.56 gear is the biggest numerical gear that you can fit in an 8 1/4.
Not a huge deal, but the 8 1/4's housing has less ground clearance, but it could be shaved a bit.

Try Henrys pic a part You pull it 100 to 125 if he pulls it 50 to 75 more for labor 1 800 742 5252 Blackstone Ma. Or try Robertsons in Wareham Ma. I bought A Ford 8.8 out of a 2001 Exploer with 4:10 disc brakes 51,000 miles for $200 in my hand.
