My tie rod, (the main big sterring one) has a slight bend in it and needs to be replaced. So I want to get a HD one. I'm thinking of picking this one up on Ebay

What do you guys think? I can't afford to go all out crazy Currie steering stuff, I just want a better replacement.
Are they a pain to install? Do you lose the thing that adjusts your sterring wheel? Sorry I don't know what these parts are called, but it looks like it's just a new tie rod and I thread it into the stock ends. Seems easy. Let me know. Thanks

Looks like a decent tie rod for 65 bucks.

Check the tie rod ends for wear while it's apart. Get new ones if they are worn.
Take a measurement of the old one while it's still assembled from center to center of the tre's. Set the new one up at the same length to get you into the ballpark.
Use a tape measure on the front and back ends of the tires to get a toe-in reading. You want the rear measurement 1/8" wider than the front to give you the proper 1/8" toe-in. The steering wheel may be crooked after the install. Use the adjuster by the steering box to fix that.

Thanks for the reply. I'll probably order it tonight. If you guys don't hear about it again the install went fine

that'll be pretty strong, but now you'll move your weak point to you TREs.

I am upgrading my steering when I upgrade my axle. and I am going with chevy 1 ton tres

I have yet to see a blown tie rod end, the tie rod aways bends. This includes a tie rod that was made from a weight lifting bar, and the tre survived.

My next Jeep is going to be all rubber bushings and tie rod ends. No re-building Johnny Joints, or Heim's.

I have seen blown TREs before.

stock CJ dana 30, heavy duty tie rod. 1.5" solid 4140 tapped either end to accept the ends. destroyed the tres (waggy dana 44 tres)

he also had a waggy steering box and 35" tires
