Anyone have any experience with buggy springs? I am looking to get a little more flex out of my YJ front end. I am running SOA with 1 1/2" springs and SRS. I am looking to replace the rear shackle bracket with a buggy spring set up. Anybody ever done this or have pics? Thanks Gregg

I've heard good things about them. Some of the guys in Colorado ran them and they seemed to work OK.

Give it a try, and let us know.

the setups I have seen usually have the buggy spring in the rear and no the front. but they also were running the standard shackle setup in the front, which is better for climbing.

I've heard that Buggies are only suppose to be used in the front.? If installed in the rear, it creates serious axle wrap. I was going to do the rear too until I heard it was a NO GO. Thinking 1/4 elliptical in the future instead.

You could always use a traction bar in the rear to help cure that axle wrap problem.

Putting a track bar on would be defeating part of the purpose of putting the buggy leafs on.

Yes, they are for the front axle, in a reverse shackle set-up. They work well. I have never seen or heard of them being put on the rear axle.

Give them a try.

Have you seen the Red YJ in JP Mag that is running either a 1/4 or 3/4 elliptical set-up in the rear. VERY COOL.

3/4 elliptical = buggy leaf

same thing.

I have seen it done in the rear many times before. Big in toyota trucks.

I have not seen it in the front, but heard of it on the net. (PBB, JA, etc). The guys I know use a standard(jeep style) shackle setup in the front as they don't want to sacrifice any climbing ability. and doing a buggy leaf with a standard shackle setup is pretty stupid.

I didn't say a track bar, I said a traction bar. It keeps the axle from binding up under acceloration.

Jon, when he says buggy leaf spring, he means the kit from Mountain Off-Road Enterprises (M.O.R.E). I haven't hear a 3/4 called a buggy leaf.

The buggy leaf setup is a single leaf that is bolted to the frame, the shackle attaches to it. It rides flat against the frame normally, but will flex down when articulating. I've never seen "this" type of buggy leaf on a rear suspension.

That would be the same as 3/4 elliptical. 1/4 would only be the spring hanging from the frame going to the axle.

here are a few links for 3/4 on the rear
