Canister behind bumper?

What the heck is this thing? I think i broke it and i need to get a new one so i need someone to tell me what it is haha. Do i need it? it has a small hose that goes to what appears to be something that connects to the throttle cable? Im totally lost on this one, anything can help.

Carbon canister or evapoartive emissions control canister.

It might also be the vacuum canister too, is your vent stuck on defrost only?

Yes you need it, I think.

i think its the vaccum canister, but im not sure

yeah it's just your vacuam canister. If you don't leave it connected then certain things will not funtion correctly.. ie a/c, cruise.. things like that. You should be able to just grab one from a junkyard or someone parting a XJ out. This is for a XJ right?

Yea this is for an XJ, what if i dont use A/c or cruise? will not having the canister affect anything else?

It will affect all of your blower controls. I believe it will default to the defroster position.

That's the one I can think of, I'm sure there is more.

If you plug it then everything should work. Though AC, vent controls and cruise may have problems but only with heavy throttle. The canister is so the controls will remain functioning when vacuum get low due to using the go pedal a lot. Nothing like full throttle in nasty heat with the AC blowing on the windshield to motivate. Junk yard should only pinch you a few bucks for it. You could probably use one off any car, as long as you plugged any extra holes and secured it in position (zip ties).

GET A NEW ONE!!!! Nowadays Jeeps have this new feature called "POWER BRAKES" uses the brake "VACUUM" booster. Any of these things ring a bell? If you have to hit the brakes quick just after WOT, you will have normal manual non-power brakes. Just like if the Jeep was turned off. You get about 1 or 2 pumps, then NO BRAKES!!!! Easy enough to relocate if you want. But PUT IT BACK!!!
