CB Calibration

Having difficulty calibration my new CB.  Won't seem to move off the max level on the SWR Meter.

Any hints?

Check your setup.  Is it grounded properly?  That will send the SWR to max.  Is there a pinch in the cable?

did you check continuity between a ground (preferably where the radio is grounded) and the connector? likewise continuity between the  ground on the connector and the center pin on the connector? you want  good continuity between the ground on the connector and a ground on the truck but you should have none between the connector itself.

I don't know what it is,  it's got the SWR meter pegged.

I had to cut connector off the cable, to snake it throw a tight spot.  And put a new connector on it,  and was careful about folding the braid back and everything.

I don't know.  I give up.

I bought a cb from a guy at work. It the meter woudn't even move when I keyed the mic. Is it possibble that the unit works, but the antenna is bad? I got my money back from the guy, and he said he was going to throw it out. Too bad too it was a nice cb (radio shack 446).

are you comeing to the m&g? I could take a look for you. im not an expert but I have set up quite a few radios both co-phase and single. maybe just a diffrent set of eyes will turn something up.

Thanks,  but I can't make the M&G this weekend.  :frown:  Going to out of town.
I got a new cable.  Try that first.  If that not that problem  the onto the next item.

I had a ground problem on the antenna. There is a white plastic washer and I had it on the top of the antenna mount. Between the antenna and mount. I was suppost to go under the mount. Switched it around and now it works fine.

The hole in the mount...  that's what the cause of all my problems was.  :swear_mad:  The stupid hole was only 3/8",  it need to be 1/2"

As soon as I opened it up.  The SWR meter barely moved off of 1.

Great you did it. I got it backwards on the white plastic washer. It goes between the antenna and the mount.
