Cheap Lift On an XJ!!!

I have a 95 Cherokee that I got cheap! It need rubber in the worst way but I dont want to spend money on tires that I'll end up not using. I would like to be in the 31 to 32 inch range. I would like some advise on how to do this the cheapest way possible so I only have to buy tires once. I can always upgrade the lift as I go!

I would get the sawzall, cut the wheel wells, and get tj flares, cut the front bumper ends a little too and buy a a cheap Budget boost fro like $170 or so. I bet you could squeak 31"x10.50's ok. I think that is the cheapest way to start, then build the lift up as you go, then you can still roll on the 31's. Bull.

Has anybody used stock TJ front springs on a XJ? I lifted my Rubicon this year and I still have the springs.

This jeep is still too nice for a sawsall.

From my experience comes this.

On my stock 87 XJ, I currently have 235s, with room for more. A 2" lift will fit 31s fine for me, and I could wheel it.

On my 89 XJ that I previously had, I ran 31s with a Rancho 2.5", and wheeled it plenty. Lot's of travel and plenty of room. The tires were 31x9.5 Swampers on stock rims. So they didn't stick out past the fenders and tucked up into the wheel wells.

Then I added 2" of budget lift and ran 34x10.5 Swampers. Again, no problems off road. Total of 4.5"s of lift.

Biggest mistake that people make is getting REALLY wide tires AND changing the offset of the rims. Now the tires stick out really far and rub when you try to wheel them.

A 31 on a stock rim SHOULD tuck up nicely if you plan to wheel your XJ.

You can look at 32x9.5 or 32x10.5 swampers with a 2.5 or 3" lift.

PM me if you want more info.

I'll say this again, this is just my experience, and is not gospel. Others will have different experiences with their vehicles. They are not wrong in what they say, and neither am I.

I think Beaker runs a Rusty's budget 3 or 4" lift with skinny 32" tires -and open diffs on his XJ. His rig was pretty capable at Mowhawk last time we ran with him. He made it through with only one tug. Everyone else had 33-36"s + and lockers front and rear (exept me with only a rear locker).

It's a rusty's 4.5" full lift not the budget. The kit is nice but the rear leafs sag after a couple years of use. The tires I run are 235-85-16 (~32x9.5x16). I only rub a little when I am really flexed.

I just got done installing the rustys 2in BB with full add leaf. I was fitting 30s on it before the lift and now it looks like I could easily fit some 31s with maybe a lil trimming for more flex.

If you get a 2in bb get the full add a leaf its worth the money.
