Why can't I find a CJ belly skid anywhere? Plenty for YJ TJ XJ. Is there some sort of mounting headache on the CJ?

You have to make your own. Or at least that is all i have seen for CJ's

What i have seen done for this is a seperate cross member installed to suppot the tranny, then a skid plate installed on the frame to protect everything. Usually bolted through the sides of the frame rather than the bottom, to avoid bolt heads getting destroyed. This also allows for teh skid to be removed easily for tranny maintenance.

The reason they dont make them for CJ's I guess because
1 Cj drivers are cooler, and it is cooler when you custom build your own items
2. Therre are a lot more options for CJ tranny, T-case combintions than on any of the newer jeeps

Like pyagid said "Cj drivers are cooler, and it is cooler when you custom build your own" Here are some pic's of mine
:D Pic #1 & Pic #2 :D
I spent $20 for the steel. I have seen better then mine but I BUILT THIS! So I guess I am cool now!

Also the fact that your current skidplate has a big dip in it to make room for your t-case that hangs down. If you really want to do a belly up type of skidplate you'll need to index your t-case. That is probally one of the reasons they don'y make one to sell. There would be more custom work then bolt on work. Carl, measure the distance between the bottom of the frame rail and the bottom of the skidplate (lowest point) and see what you get. By indexing my t-case and making a flat skidplate I managed to get the bottom of my skidplate only 2 inches below the frame rail. If I remember correctly I saved a few inches. They make indexing kits (basically a adapter ring) that will allow you to index you t-case easily or you can do what I did and redrill the adapter on the transmission. There is some shifter issues as well. When I get home tonight I will post a picture or two. Hopefully Toyworx will chime in, I think he did something custom as well (if I remember correctly). Let me know if I can be of any help.

what t-case are you running..?
if the dana 20... its easy, a piece of 3/8 flat stock and possibly a lowering kit ..... the bottom of the dana 20 will be flush with the frame in stock applications I needed a 1 inch drop.. I gained like 6 inches...
the dana 300 hangs much lower...hope this helps....
here is a pic...

If you look at mine... it is a Scout T-19 transmission with a Scout Dana 300, so it isn't clocked.

I did slide my engine forward and raised the whole drivetrain an inch or so and I do have a 1" body lift. I did put the 2" stock in because you really can't go completely flat without clocking the case up.

Here are some pics of what I did (if the pics show up). I rotated my t-case as much as I could without requiring me to cut a hole in body. The bottom of the t-case is just about even with the bottom of the frame. But with the way I constructed the skidplate I ended up about 2 inches below the frame. As you can see my skidplate covers the transmission and t-case. It it is removable in sections to allow from oil draining and access. I basically constructed a frame and skinned it with 1/8" plate. Its not perfect but is flat and allows me to slide over things and not get hung up.
