Clunking on the YJ

I've had some clunking noise that sounds like someone hitting a ball-peen hammer under the floorboards.  It would happen usually when I would back up or start to go foward (like when in a parking lot)  I originally though it may be a bad U-Joint, but we checked them this weekend.  I noticed on the AX15 tranny - there was a short arm comming off the bottom on the drivers side.  It is connected to a bolt which goes through the arm into the skidplate.  There is a bushing on top of the arm and a bushing below the arm.  It looks like some of the lower bushing is missing - there is a 1/2 gap between the arm and lower bushing.  Could this be the cause of the 'clunk'?  If so - what is that part called and where do I get a replacement?

Could be, the YJ have an isolator bushing to prevent torque turning of the engine and tranny,  It should be a bolt that is sandwiched to the skid plate, then where the tab comes off the tranny, the bolt goes through a bushing, then mount, then bushing with a top nut...  Bushings are cheap, last time I got them at the dealer I think I paid $5.

There is a nut on both sides, and a center section you hold with a wrench to tighten them down.

Thanks Damon.  Bruce and I were checking it out and that seems to be the issue.  Unfortunately, the bolt is pretty rusted and looks like it will snap when we remove it, and I dont know what to order for replacement bolt and bushings.  I may wait until I do the SYE swap to address the issue (I assume I have to drop the skidplate to fix the bushing?)

Naa, just undo the 2 tranny mount bolts that are up in the skid, and then jack the tranny, you will be able to pull it right out.  as for getting a new bolt and bushing, I will let you know, I am actually going to be getting one for me this week.  Right now I have a long carriage bolt and washers...  sort of a quick pre trail repair
