crazy idea

Hi Guys
I have been working on figuring out a reasonable way to get a 8 lug front axle onto my cherokee.  I have a line on an 8 lug rear.  I have pieced together a way to do it but it may seem a little strange.

First take a stock dana 30.  Cut the tubes off at the knuckle. 2-1/2" diameter OD. (need to measure to make sure)

Cut the knuckles and tubes off of a GM 10 bolt.  Tubes 3" OD 2-1/2" ID (need to measure to make sure.)

Slide tubes over dana 30 tubes.  Fit so the stock dana 30 inner shafts meet properly with the 10 bolt stub shafts.

10 bolts and dana 30's with ABS have the same size u-joint.

Rotate 10 bolt tubes to get right pinion angle.  Weld on.

While not the prettiest setup.  Per the internet info I have it should be possible.

Have I lost my mind?  What do you guys think?

what is the width of the rear axle?  are you going to narrow it?  Why not just have a set of front wheel adapters made for 5x4.5 to 8x??  until you upgrade the front axle as well?

so you are upgrading the rear to something 8 lug.

thats a dana 60 or a 14  bolt right

if you don't wanna drop the coin on a 60 front,  get a waggy 44 front,  swap the knuckle on out from a 3/4 ton truck

8 lug  and no POS front axle.  onestly if you have the fab skills to do build the mes you are talking about do it right.  I would not feel comfortable with those tubes being a slip fit.  normal knuckckle are an interferance fit with a weld.

why? :rotflmao:

If he would only use his powers for good, instead of evil.

Are wagoneer axles high pinion?
Nope. Ford axles are the only 44's and 60's that are high pinions.
Here's some good 44 axle info. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52219&highlight=pinion
