Detroit Locker for a F350

A friend of mine is considering a Detroit locker for his F350.  It's not a DD.  He uses it to do some logging (off road) and plowing.  He does drive on-road to deliver firewood etc...  He's never driven a vehicle with a locker before.  How harsh is a Detroit driving around town?  How different is the Detroit "soft" locker?  I figure with a long wheelbase an automatic locker has less drawbacks on pavement than my Jeep.  I appreciate your input

if he REALLY loads it often and drives on the pavement with the load, the selectable is the only way to go. i have heard nothing but praise from several different people who have installed a detroit posi in thier 10.25 and they say it almost as tight as a locker and very nice to drive. i want to do the same to mine when the time comes.

He won't even know it's there in the F350. Go with it.
I have a detroit locker in the XJ and barely even notice it. I thought it was going to be all over the road, and noisy in a jeep from what people have said about them. I'm building new axles for my jeep this winter, and went with a detroit again.
I used to have one in my lowered chop top chevy truck years ago, but the tires were wide on a narrowed 9", and no weight to the bed. It would lock in and hop the rear around a little pulling U-turns.

the only time i realy know i have the  detroit in the xj is when one (tire)side is  lower than the other .

Thanks for the feedback!  BTW - what is the difference between the Detroit Locker and the Detroit 'Soft Locker'?
