Door latch adjustment

I have a set of half doors for my LJ
I took the hinges off them and repainted them and rekeyed the locks

I'm putting them back on and I have the hinges adjusted correctly I think, the door fits in the opening correctly and the gaps around the door look good

Except the half door  door latch side sticks out almost 1/2"  I can adjust the striker in about a 3/8 of an inch and the door only sticks out a little on the latch side but now of course my full doors stick in about a 3/8 of an inch

Is there any adjustment in the latch mechanism itself in the door ?

I dont remember seeing any adjustment in them when I had them apart, definitely no slotted movement in the door, they just screw in

The half doors are from a 99 or so, did they change the latches in the 03-05 years ?

I read all the time about the doors being interchangeable but I'm not so sure

Any one have any ideas if something is mismatched  ?

Pictures of the 2 doors closed and the 1/2" difference in latching points and the striker, you can see where I marked it with a sharpie  where it was and how much I moved it

Thanks

Hmm always something. I’ll try and get over there tomorrow and give you a hand. I may have to go look at a donor vehicle. I’ll let you know tomorrow afternoon.

The latches on my 99 TJ looks the same.  The hinges themselves "Fits Half Steel & Full Steel Doors on 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ & Unlimited" according to Crown Automotive

Hope that helps

I know the CJ & YJ were the same, never checked if my YJ doors physically fit in my TJ door openings when I had both Jeeps - the door striker and latches on the YJ were the old school round style like every pre mid 90's car

So looks like the YJ latches and TJ latches and strikers are different and no way they would interchange,  thanks Frank

I think if you loosen up the latch mechanism in the door it will adjust also.
I'll take a look and see if there's any adjustment

So I fixed it

Little embarrassed but basically I didn't slam them closed hard enough
Thought I did but apparently the latch didn't catch on the second spot like it should. I installed new rubber gaskets around the doors and I guess they aren't broken in yet.

The door latches aren't adjustable, too many lock and handle rods on the inside to have any movement I guess

Only the hinges and strikers are adjustment points.

All good now and everything lines up and works like it should

Put the mirrors on too

Just have to install the uppers now

I fixed a hole on one of the interior panels and then rattled canned them black

New interior and exterior handles and rekeyed the locks to match the ignition  key.
