Finally, Chrysler does not screw me over!!!!

So I am fresh running out of factory warranty on my Rubi, so I bring it in for a grand old list of stuff…

So with all of the stuff on the list there is no problems at all, but then I mention about my Hard top…

It is a well documented fact that when the switched the design on the Hard Top to the lighter plastic stuff, Bestop who makes it did not reinforce the front single ply section.  So of course I am one of the suckers that gets this problem…  It really is not bad, but when you look out after a rain storm, you actually see a puddle up on the HARD top….

So here is the Bulletin:

HARD TOP SAG REPAIR
Inspect the roof/hard top assembly for the presence
of sag, or if the customer complains of water accumu-lation
on the roof. Perform the following procedure to
repair.
(1) Disengage latches at windshield frame (Fig. 1).
NOTE: The two forward bolts/nuts are not captured.
Do not lose the nuts when removing.
(2) Remove the six bolts that attach the hard top
to the body (Fig. 2).
(3) Depress tab on rear wiper motor connector and
pull downward to disengage (Fig. 3).
(4) Make two marks on the inside of the hard top
6 cm (2.5 in.) on both sides of the center roof rib,
directly above the sport bar.
(5) Move the hard top back about 10 cm (4 in.) to
expose the inner rib section.
(6) Clean the roof area with isopropyl alcohol.
(7) Install the foam repair blocks by removing the
protective backing tape from the adhesive side. The
foam blocks must be centered above the sport bar
pad.
( 8 ) Move the hard top assembly back into position
and centered at the windshield frame.
(9) Inspect the hard top seals for damage and
replace, if necessary.
(10) Inspect the windshield header seal and make
sure it is clean, undamaged, and free of debris.
(11) Carefully position the hard top assembly on
the vehicle making sure that the latches are not
pinched between the windshield frame and top.
CAUTION: Do not over tighten the top bolts. Over
tightening can cause cracking of the hardtop
assembly.
(12) Loosely install the six bolts. Ensure that the
top is centered on the vehicle and tighten the bolts to
17 N•m (150 in. lbs.).
(13) Connect the wire wiper motor harness connec-tor.
(14) Connect the rear washer fluid hose.
(15) Engage the latches at windshield frame and
snap the clamps home.

So in essence, they want to double stick plastic crap on the inside of the ribs….  When I brought it there last time and told them, and the service manager looked that up, he said he would do it, but be sure that I wanted them to being it was a lame fix and probably would not look 100%

Anyway, so I bring it Tuesday, don’t bitch much and just tell them that the top is sagging.  They call me later in the day and say that they have a call into DC and they may replace the top or do the fix…

So, finally I get another call today and it seems that Jeep is willing to give me a Brand new Hard top…  (nock on wood)

Before you say it, I know wheeling Jeeps don’t need hard tops, and if I lifted it higher you would not be able to see the puddle…. But anyway, I still like the HT in the winter (no salt on the plastic windows) and being I get a nice new one kicks ass….

I recently got a new soft top becuase i have a mysterious leak that they have been chasing for a year... funny thing is, it happens with the hardtop on too... so it isn't just the softtop!

zack,

my mother has been going back and forth with our dealer for a leak on her 05. it keeps appering on the passenger side floor, lots of it. salt water too from the road the jack handle and jack are all white and corroded. what have they done to yours besides the softtop

got it coming in from the same area. They took the dash out resealed all the holes in the firewall... then thought it was fixed... then they replaced the door seal on the passenger side.. thought it was fixed.. then ordered the softtop... they think it is fixed but I haven't brought it back to tell them it isn't.

It is a common problem on 03-06... I have not heard anyone find the problem.

my mom has a/c i'll have to check that out. but it seems unlikely that there would be soo much road salt and grime from the evaporator.

nope comes in a totally differant area on the 03s.. no defrost and no AC is run in my jeep.

Doesnt matter if you have AC or not, the hole is there on all of them.

yes i realise that, but that leak issue he is talking about was condensation off of the ac thingy when the AC is ON

the most recent trip to the dealer for my moms jeep they sited the fender seam as the problem. not sure exactly what they ment or fixed. can't see any welding or painting. and I didn't talk to them i'm only going by the paperwork. however, it hasn't leaked yet. although we have only had one minor rainstorm thus far.
