Not sure if this it what it is called or not. But it is the piece of metal that attaches to either side of the frame. The piece that is right under the plastic piece with the jeep logo in front of the grill. Unsure how to post the picture. Well I am looking to find this piece to have it replaced. It is split in a couple of spots. Does anyone know the part number, or where I can find it?

thanks,
Bob

The factory part number from jeep is J812 7708 (i completely forgot i had a parts CD till i read this post)

Get a steering box brace while you're at it.

I dont think bob is planning on going for a big build with this jeep as much as a Stock, to slightly more than stock. A steering box brace wont really be needed, maybe a heavy duty bracket at most. But that may even be unnecessary

Thanks Paul, It has 31's on it now. I kinda want this one to be close to stock.

I'm just pointing out that the reason that piece is cracked is from steering flex.

Thanks Karl, I guess we are going to take this piece off and weld it back together. I hope it works ok, can't seem to find that piece anywhere. Would Jeep themselves actually still stock a 25 year old piece? Guess I should get one if that's what caused the cracks in the first place.

How hard is the install on one of those braces  I have one waiting at home for me to get there and put on but I have no idea how much work it will take

As long as the sway bar bolts back out easily half an hour. Otherwise, the amount of time to drill out the bolts to put them back in

Yeah the number for the crossmember is: J812 7708 and the cover is: J575 8048. Those are the numbers I got from my microfiche.
