I forget. With a 4:11 gear ratio do I need to re-gear to put 33" tires on a 4cyl?

I'm running 35's with mine with a 4 spd,its definatly not ideal, but I can run ok on the highway but its not slow enough in the woods. Drive it and see.

Pete - I run 4.56 on my 4.0 with 33's 2800 RPM's on the highway in 5th.

With a 4 banger - see how the drivability is with the 4.11's I see many Rubi's with 4.0L 4.11 and 33's = a decent compromise. Not sure with a 4 banger...

Yup. You'll loose 5th gear and you'll use your clutch more on the trail. Go 4.88. My '92 YJ with 2.5L and SM420 tranny can keep highway speeds pretty well with 4.10's and 33's but with my 35's on, it's a slooooow ride.

Drive it a while and see if you can compromise with 33's and 4.10s with a 4cyl

If it's your DD - I think 4.56 may be a good compromise
With 33's and the 4.56 gears you will be hitting ~ 2800 RPMs at 65MPH

If you plan on rocks etc on a regular basis- 4.88 should be nice with a 4 banger and 33's

rubis were meant for the larger tire size (33s), with 33s the speedo is exactly on.. no power lose..

as for a 4cyl, i would say you would want more.. I had two four cylinders, once stick and one auto.. both didn't move at all.. the auto was worse. I couldn't maintain 60 on the highway.

:yup: 4.88. with a T-76 four speed. Next step rebuilding my T-18 four speed  :yup:
