gear swap, will HP work?

I have my dana 30 from my TJ with 3.07s and i was offered a 4.10 ring and pinion out of a 1995 yj high pinion d30. Can i just open the cover, swap the gears and be done? there was some question to the "pinion is higher and the ring remains in the same place, thus the cut is different" and other things but i figured id just ask you guys. SO, can i swap them or will they not work? thanks

Just stay away from the older ones with vac disconnect.

Actually, I think you can just put a blockoff plate on the vac part and slide in the one piece shafts from the TJ axle he has already. :?:

Even if the gears were the correct cut, the carrier would also be wrong. D30 3.07 Carrier won't take a 4.10.

I have a complete 93 XJ front axle here. There are two people that have unofficially claimed it.
I'll contact them with first dibs. If not, it's available to you.

It's definately worth building a high pinion axle if you're going to spend the money on gears, set up labor and lockers. You get better yoke/driveshaft ground clearance, and a better pinion angle before you really need to start correcting it.
Plus the hp ring and pinion is about 30% stronger than low pinion in a front axle application.

keep in mind, a D30 with Vac Disco. has a cast iron pass. side upper CA mount, not to mention the fact that a Disco version has a two-piece passenger side axle tube, no wher near as strong as the one piece unit. plus the hassle of the sliding collar......also, HP gear cut on the front axle is closer to 15% increase as far as R&P strength versus LP gear cuts. Regardless, D30 axles are up to 36" tires. Some even run 38s on 260xu-joints. learn to drive with your achilles heel. otherwise, carry spare everything. Also, you have a lot to learn as far as gear swaps go.....it's not plug and play. HTH,

also the bearings are different between the lp and hp d30 as well as the rp itself.pete
