Heater Fan Control

O.K. my jeep just came off of the warrantee and now my heater fan only blows on high.  Anybody had this happen and what do I replace?

I was thinking the control itself.

It is the heater control relay... it is a common problem... if it is a lot of money, contact me and I have a solution for you..  (I have a Rubi too)

edit- not switch,

I had luck bypassing the resistor so the fan only blows on medium, when you select a vent position. turn the vents off the fan shuts off. vents on,  fan blows medium. its not great but its cheap.

Blower motor resistor or heater control relay?  Are the both the same dodad, or are the two separate parts I should get.

it's the resistor that controls the various speeds ... if it's only working on high, that's probably your problem.

p.s.  Hi Bruce!  <- Al from NFA

I concur.  Blower motor resistor pack.  The resistor pack is a set of coiled wires that control the speed of the fan.  There are three separate coils with different resistances.  Lo, med-lo, med-hi, and Hi.  Hi is a direct link.  Usually one resistor will burn out and it will default to hi.  Pain to get to, but definately a D.I.Y. repair.  Autozone has the resistors in stock most of the time.  I would recommend Wells.  They have a lifetime replacement warranty on their electronics.

Well, I ASSumed it was a dealer part.  Called Bolles this morning and they had one in stock for 15 bucks.

So off I go to the dealer and picked up the new part.  After about 20 min of swearing and tring to get the connector off.(longest part of repair)  I get the new unit in and PRESTO IT WORKED! :grinyes:

Thanks alot guys!

I JUST SAVE A BUNCH OF MONEY ON MY JEEP REPAIR!!!
