Hitch pin strong enough?

I just had a thought about my hitch pin.  My hitch pin secures my D ring shackle to the rear hitch reciever.  If this is used as a recovery point I know the bumper and D-ring are strong enough but what about the strength of the hitch pin.  I dont want this to break and have the shackle fly back towards someone.  The hitch pin is made by Master Lock.  Is there any such thing as a Grade 8 hitch pin?
Thanks....

If I recall, the hitch pin is about 1/2 inch in diameter. Dependending on the material its made out of, it probably has a sheer rating that exceeds the weight of the truck. I'm thinking that pin is good for somewhere well above 10,000 lbs of sheer.

Ditto

I wouldn't worry about it breaking, but never stand in that way either.

I used a srew driver may years ago with a chain as a strap and it did break and the jeep was in deep mud with the axle not in place.

Sounds good....I just don't want any mishaps!!  Not that I would get stuck, I mean if I were to have to pull someone else!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Many Jeepers with only a 2" hitch use it as a recovery point.  Take a 2" x 20' recovery strap put it in the receiver and use the pin to hold it in place   I've used that method back in the day for Holly to tow my Olds 442 to the tranny shop for about 20 miles (with her old XJ) , to tow my YJ off Rt 6 this year with the Dakota :frown:.
