Need help on how to do this, my first trailer experience is going to be next weekend and i need to know how to strap this baby down \

Thanks AJ

first of all use chains and chain binders chain the 4 corners from the jeep not the axles this will prevent the jeep from bouncing on the trailer and possibly breaking the chains

good luck

chain the axles, If you go to the body, that is where you may have problems with shock loading and breaking the chains.

then comprss the suspension to minimize te degrees of freedom in the system.

when straping down my xj i strapped throught the "C" on the frt axle in a criss-cross. on the rear axle i criis-crossed over the springs.

i use 10,000 lbs strapps w/ axle straps, this is the way all the car guys i know transport thier car and rigs and they have been doing it this way for years. i have been doing it this way for about 5 yrs and have had no issues. in fact i was pulled over by a DOT police officerand he said i was the only truck and trailer he had pulled over in a while that "used proper binders, in the correct manner" made me happy

i was told if you strap the body down the suspension will "load and unload: creating a "unsafe condition"

just my .02

haha sounds good bull, thanks all im gonna go buy the stuff to do it tomarrow, should i buy the high weight capacity rachet straps? or use chains? I never have like the ideas of chains, they are metal ya know

metal = stronger.

straps work just fine, be sure to check them for wear before using them each time... once they start to fray toss them

chain doesn't fray

I use Chains and chain binders at each corner. Also pullover about half way and check your load You may need to tighten up the chains because the load may shift a little. Also look at the tractor trailer and it's lowbed they use chains.

the extra money u save on straps wont replace your xj or the car it lands on
go with chains

10,000 to 20,000 lb chains are very expensive and very large. they are .5" to .625 in diameter (not the loop diameter, the material diameter). 10ft would be ~ 37 lbs.

Good straps work just fine.

im all set everyone thanks for all the input ill get some pics up of it strapped down, after this weekends run

guys holding down loaders and excavation equipment use chain binders. people who hold down a 5k jeep use straps. take a look at AAA they use straps not that there the best. but they have a bunch of dummies running the trucks and i never see on with a truck sitting on the roof because it rolled forward. they out of all companies prob tow a hell of a lot of cars they just strap with a choker type strap around each tire down to the bed.

haha, i bought straps for the front and use chains in the rear took it to Stone Gardens and it worked out great! THanks all
