How strong is a Full Case Detroit Locker?

Unsure if the locker was still working. I was dragging logs on Sunday but had the doors on so I couldn’t see the front wheels. The front axle was pushing around corners like the front locker was working though.

Regarding bearings, I think I’ll just replace them regardless thinking about it. I have to pull them to swap the carrier anyway. I’d rather avoid a future issue. Debating a set of 4340 shafts as well. I’m still running that weld on almost alloy kit that everyone said wouldn’t work.

... Honestly debating just going to a lunchbox. I have an open carrier. I don’t drive in the winter so really no need for a selectable.

The internet says that the carrier is the weak point. I ran lunchbox locker in the front of my XJ, and front and back in my YJ on 35's for (9 years). I broke axle shafts, but never had any locker/carrier issues.

Th Eaton guy said it was from the Dana 30 flexing and stretching the case bolts.  That's why they loosen up.

The Detroit is a full case so that rules out the carrier.

Jeremy has a beefy truss on his and had the same problem. I would have thought that would take care of the axle tubes flexing.

Hmmm, back to square one.

I was thinking about this as well. I wouldn’t expect much flexing with the truss I have on my axle. It’s welded to both sides of the pumpkin and ties into the stock upper axle mount.

Yup, I understand that his is full case. I was was just saying that whenever you say lunchbox locker, people immediately say get a full case because the carrier is the weak point. As I said, that may be true, but I never had an issue.

If I did try to get another full case, I think the only other real option for a full case auto locker would be a Yukon grizzly, right? The option Terry went with is a limited slip.

At this point I personally would skip the 44 and get a SD60. They are dirt cheap and all over the place. And the matching sterling 10.5’s are even cheaper.

Only 44 I’d consider would be JK, and only because my wheels and tires would bolt up and the steering setup is very similar to what I already run.
