This might be a little lengthy but I have faith in all of you that you'll come up with some great ideas.

I have a 94 Cherokee sport with 4.0L and 130k miles, Dana 30 front, Chrysler 8.25 rear.  Just before i left for school i started hearing a grinding noise.  it got worse so i brought it into a shop.  I was told that the pilot and axle bearins were shot along with a whole bunch of other shit that basically summed up to, " your rear end is done"  I love my Cherokee and do not wish to part with it however my Father will not have a non-working vehicle "taking up space" at his home and as i am in college in Boston most the year i cannot have it here.

I figure the best idea is to upgrade.  This is a DD and i use it for minor wheeling nothing major.  Water Co. properties and such( i know, BAD PAT! but i do it anyway)  I was thinking that a newer Chrysler 8.25 i think they are 29 spline where my old one was 27?  I will be doing research in the forums as to what this entails.

What i need from you are other cost effective solutions and also advice, and possibly help as my mechanical skills, though growing might not be up to this task.  I also don't have a place to do it because I'm looking to complete it over Xmas break if i can(DEC 16-Jan7) plenty of time but ill need a garage and someone with a compressor and such i imagine.)

If anyone has ideas or would be willing to help out a college student trying to save his jeep that would be amazing. I'll bring the beer and  we can work something out if you offer up a space to do this.

Thanks,
Pat

Well.. The first thing i read and stuck in my head was that you openly admitted to doing something Illegal and you don't care. Let me tell you thanks, becuase I CARE along with the members of the clubs in the area and US. Because of people who don't care, we lose trails daily and are unable to gain more. Yes this sucks that we can't use the proporty right outside your back door, but you are in a helping the cuase by not doing so.

Secondly, Probably the best thing for you to do is just a simple upgrade, i am sure you can find someone with a rear axle out of a cherokee wether it be 27 or 29 spline, at this point it shouldn't matter to you because you need to get hte vehicle on the road. As for the install.. it shouldn't take more than a hour or two to install it, even with simple hand tools, jack and jack stands.

BAD PAT ;-)
