Been getting this horrible growling noise from the front end.  I knew the wheel bearings were iffy and loose.  Instead of really checking it out, I decided to wait till Christmas and ask for wheel bearings.  Well, I got my wish!!!  Wheel bearings under the tree.  Swapped them out tonight.  About an hour (not including converting the front rotors from solid (with mud) back to vented.).  Went for a road test.  SAME GODDAMN NOISE!!!!!  This time I get under the Jeep and jiggle the front shaft.  Damn Pinion bearing is falling out!!!  1/4-1/2 inch of play!!!  Not happy!!!!  Looks like my Friday is now planned.  stupid, stupid, stupid

That sucks.
But look at the bright side, you now have a reason to swap in a Hi-pinion axle.

I always thought your jeep was a 2000 or whatever year that came with a LP.

Ok then, it's a good reason to re-gear.
Talk to Bernie, I think he has F&R 4.56 gears and install kits sitting around for a hp30 and 8 1/4. He's building bigger, so he might sell them cheap.

Swapped in the HP last spring.  I'll give Bernie a call.  Wasn't really planning on regearing this soon.  Also wasn't planning on it being the pinion bearings.

donny, take off the d/s and tighten up the big nut , 1 1/8 socket  i think, might buy you some time.if the noise goes away before you fix it,problem solved,= no 4x4 for you.  then youll have to see some guy a Ct Axle :dancingfool:. pete
