Installing a new turn signal lever

Anyone done this before?  I managed to get one off in 1 piece on a column I had kicking around.  I'm going to attempt to install it in Marty's YJ this weekend.  Are there any tricks/tips on this?  The Chilton's directions are really vague.  I already have the special steering wheel removal tools.  Removing the lever with wiring harness was a pain - even with it on the bench. I imagine re-installing it with the column in the Jeep will be tough.  Thanks in advance for your input!

Chilton's? vague?? :zbanghead: :zbanghead:Sometimes I just want to BURN that book. I get better help from a Quadratech catalog.

I looked at it again tonight and it may be easier to install a whole steering system than replacing this one switch

We'll give it a try

Good luck
I tried changing one in my cherokee.

You need to get that  :swear_mad: lock plate off

As for reassembly, The main problem is getting the switch and related stuff together and assembled.  5 hands would make it easier.

If you need help give me a call, I've done it.

frank if you hung up give me a call. if you want the lock and pivot tools let me know.

Thanks Ron - I have the tools (left over from an ignition switch change-over on Holly's 3rd XJ prior to the KJ)

My main concern it routing the harness back in the column   I'll call you on your cell if I get stuck   Thanks for the help!

When you pull the old one out, tie a piece of twine etc onto the harness.  Use electrical tape to make it a smooth assembly that will pull through the channels.  Once the connector is through, and the string is now hanging out both ends, do the reverse and pull the electrical connector back through with the twine.
