Well,
I added a rear bumper/tire carrier that someone had given me to the rear of my YJ. I pulled off the old draw bar hitch and discovered the typical rear frame rot that YJ's get (the very rear after the shackle mount) because the shat that get's in there can't get out.
After clearing out the rust, it looks like the threw-frame shackle mount and rear crossmember are still pretty strong. So I cleaned/painted it and added the bumper.
In thinking about the future of my YJ's never ending buildup, I was looking into Matkins frames. Someone from my club (Baystate) also mentioned that AFW frames were pretty good. Another option would be to get a stock frame and prep it for use (Maybe even a TJ frame...hmmm coil springs). I can find one from Car-parts.com for $350-$500 +/- .
The Matkins frame I looked at was about $2200 for the Stage2 with the Antirust for the 4 cylinder.
Anybody have any dealings with Matkins or AFW? A stock frame would be OK, but if I'm gonna start frame up, then I might as well go heavy duty. Thoughts?
