JKU rear storage box

I installed the rear storage box I built for my 08 JKU. It is mainly out of pine with the drawer supports and runners out of Red Oak.  I stained the outside with a mix of Dark Walnut and Grey stain to add a weathered look to it.  The insides of the drawers have a few coats of poly.

It looks like you strategically added slots on the side, are they to store something specific? Obviously the drawers can't go all the way to the edges or they wouldn't clear the tail gate, but it still looks like you purposely built those slots rather than making the box narrower.

The slots were a "design opportunity" :redface:
When I test fit the box, it fits tightly between the wheel wells, I realized that full width drawers would not work and had to modify the design.  I'm trying to figure what and how to secure would work in those slots.
