The leafs can be a real pain in the @$$.  On any leafs that are, Use an angle grinder and cut the leaf eye in two places.  Pull the leaf metal off.  Pry off the rubber bushing (crow bar, it will split and break off), use a dremel to cut the inner sleeve.  Grab sleeve with locking pliers and unscrew bolt.

If the fronts bolts are bad, just cut the bolts and hammer out (big hammer).

Installing the front axle can be a pain.  Check where arms contact axle brackets, grind for more clearance but don't weaken the brackets.  Assemble without springs, drop as low as you can and put springs in.  Hook up shocks and put calipers on last.

Put everytihng on with anti-seize.  Use plenty!!  2 years from now when you've popped a bushing, broken something etc.  It will come out with ease!!

Lastly, plan for a lot of hours.  It takes much more time to pull the old stuff off then to put the new stuff in.

Beaker covered most of it.

Start soaking every bolt with PB blaster now.
Spray them down at least twice a day until it's time for the lift. :yup: Especially the leafspring bolts, and rear upper shock mount bolts.

When it's time to change the front arms, replace them one at a time while they are at normal ride height with the body and axles supported. Much easier than when it's "flexed out" with the axle hanging.

Start soaking every bolt with PB blaster 2 weeks ago. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:  pb blaster is your friend use lots of it

x3 on the PB Blaster.

What I've learned so far is that you want to prepare for the worst and if it doesn't happen, then BONUS!

One of the crappy things that can happen is breaking the upper rear shock bolts. From what I was told, we were lucky not to break any when we did my 98 in March. Another is breaking the welded nut when removing the leaf springs.

I broke the upper shock nuts on my old jeep.  It must be different then the new ones.  I took a hammer and punch, knocked it out and slid a nut in from the backside.

XJ leafs are like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

I soaked my 95 for 4 weeks before attempting my lift!

It still took me 5 hours to get the the drivers side rear leaf off! :swear_mad:

But only 20 minutes to get the passenger side leaf off! :grinyes:

Just make sure to plan everything.  Good time to get backup bolts just in case you end up cutting them out!  Boles Motors in Ellington has thier parts dept open on Saturdays till noon.  If you go to the hardware store, be sure to get GRADE 8 BOLTS AND NUTS!

Call me if you guys get in trouble!  I'll be around.

Oh, I almost forgot the most important tool you will need!

THE PERSUADER!

Or something equivalent! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
