OK - so it is just a what if question..... but it makes me think!

With the military wrap on the BDS springs getting in the way of the center brace - why would I not just "trim" back the material that is in the way? Is there a structural purpose to it - does it act as a safety in case the eye blows out?????? What is it's "special purpose"?

I have already returned the Currie shackles and ordered the MORE - but I would like to know why I could not just cut the springs to make em work?

You could cut the spring, and BDS will even warranty it, but that is like buying a Porsche and replacing the name tags with Honda...

Alan is correct, the eye is supported if ever failed.  It also will help lesson fatigue do to support.  The also help with not flattening of the spring due to over extension.  Usually if ever a spring breaks, it will usually sit on the frame, so you can limp off the trail, but what people forget is if you have any kind of wheel drop on the way out, then the axle will drop as far as the shocks let it, and pop goes the d-shaft.

You can cut it, but then you might as well put on a set of cheap springs.  Military wrap is considered to be the best, RE uses them and many others.

Trust me, it is far worth keeping being you already got the best...  even if you buy custom Alcan springs, which are the best out there, they recommend Mll Wrap for the increase in strength...

Thanks - I have no intention of cutting them - I just got to thinking (never good) about it and wanted to hear any Pro's or Con's. It is funny, when I called Q'tec about returning the Currie shackles for ones that would fit the BDS they said they did not carry any - and that I should just cut the springs! Needless to say I have sent them back in exchange for some SS brake lines and such - and have ordered the  LS9091 from MORE.

Thanks for the feedback - I appreciate the help.
