i just finished fixing my front two wheel joints and less then a week later my rear drive shaft u joint broke at the differential  :rotflmao:
i would just like some info to help me fix it and what i should buy for a new u joint.

Hey Nick,

well you needed to do the t-case output seal anyway...

U-joint is easy, and being you are lifted and no SYE YET!, you should get used to changing them.  When you have a slightly bad angle like you have, you will find they will go alot sooner.... and that is why they make SYE.

As for the joint to use, any brand will work, just better brands will work longer.

my past use:
Napa= Japan, lasted from Paragon and back
Acme= Precision, last twice as long as the napa, but still failed in about 6 months

Best as always is Spicer.

Hey Nick, I thought you already had those joints!  You might be able to borrow the same tool that Damon used at a local parts store.  Drive shafts are no different than what we did last weekend!

Isn't wheeling fun? :grinyes:

Give me a call tomorrow if you have questions.  I'll be in the garage with my troubles!

I'm looking into CTM racing's 300M joints. No needle bearings- great reviews online.  Check out their website.

www.ctmracing.com

I've got a few other mfg'rs I', looking at but can't find the info right now.  I'll add it when I locate it.

CTM, OX and Randy's (front axle u-joints) are all nice, but be careful putting them in stock shafts, then it makes the shafts the weaker link... and if you blow apart a shaft ear, then the joints are garbage.  Usually a great combo is Chrome Alloy shafts with CTM,, they are on my list for my CA shafts, but the price is so high,,,,

CTM are nice but $$$

OX they say are a bit hard to put in, but once you get it right, they are nice.

And Randy's are nice, but you need a special grease gun (that comes with it) or the pressure from a standard gun will break the seals

You just talked me out of the CTM's.  I'd rather replace the joint, not the shaft.  Good point - I didn't even consider that.

Groudhog,  is your jeep driven on the road often.  because those needle bearingless u joints require frequent greasing(like be fore every wheeling trip) and do not like high speeds.

Yes, the ZJ is a daily driver but it will see some use with the club.  My goal is to wheel it on mild terrain whenever possible and use it more hard core as it ages.

I'm looking for a Wrangler for serious wheeling.  I have a buddy who is going to auctions weekly keeping his eyes peeled for me.  With the amount of cash i've sunk into the ZJ, I can't justify buying a used truck off of a used car lot - the mark up is way too high.

The ZJ  will be done by spring if all goes well.  The only trouble I can forsee is with driveline vibes and gearing, all of which can be expensive.  That's why I was looking into u joints, axle upgrades, gearing kits, etc. before I need any of them - just in case I need to replace any of that when the suspension is done. Murphy's Law - nothing ever goes as planned!

But you guys make a great point about upgrading to parts I don't need.  I'm glad evryone here takes the time to help each other out with the pros & cons of the projects we're working on. I thank you, my wallet thanks you.
