Ok, I'm going to describe this as best as I can. Every time I'm at a dead stop and start to take off in first gear, I hear a loud bang coming from underneath, it sounds like some one is taking a hammer and smacking it a few times, and then when I shift into second gear I hear what sounds like nails bouncing around in a soda can and along with the noise every time I start to take off there's a horrible vibration. Please some one help me!! It's a 2000 TJ Sport, Standard with 108,836 miles on it.

Gee, thanks Karl. I hate fixing my own Jeep. After fixing Fords for 11 hours a day, the last thing I want to do is work on more cars!!!

Oh and I forgot to mention theres a LOUD chirping sound coming from it too and it doesn't matter what gear I'm in to hear that.

I second the tranny mount, it's pretty common at a certain mileage.

As for the chirping sound, chack the fan clutch first any wobble independent of the water pump pulley means it's bad, if the water pump pulley wobbles also then that is bad as well. (these must be checked by hand with engine not running)

At the very least your serpentine belt may need tightening or replacement.

The front u-joint in the rear shaft committed suicide. The chirp is at road speed not engine speed. I think it's something in the front left wheel. I will be checking that on a lift tomorrow. Thanks again everybody for getting me roped into fixing another vehicle on my down time  .

U-joints. Your main man Donny can fix that real quick.
Yeah - Karl nailed that one

Ask me how I know...really, have driven 4WDs and dump trucks most of my life. Had a few U-joints go. What really is amazing is how far you can go before they actually fly apart. I've changed ones that were only lubricated with powdered rust and metal chips and still semi operational.
