Need generator planning help

Personally I'd get the largest size generator that is portable that you can afford. I have a 5500 but I basically have to shut my stuff down and like Jeremy I run my freezer and two refrigerators and then I alternate a refrigerator for the well pump and I have to shut my hot water tanks off because they are both electric. I want to get a 20,000 watt or bigger before next winter. Once I do that my 5500 will be up for sale at a really good price.

I run a 5500 with a 9000 surge generator and I have 2 refrigerators with no issues.  Only thing I cant run is the Dryer, oven and AC.  Back in Columbia I had 3 refrigerators, pellet stove, furnace well pump and never had to shut anything down.  A 20K will be mostly standby and lots of $$.  I would do it down here but unfortunately I would have to install it 6 feet in the air.

The 7500 I had at rental ran 2 refrigerators all the lights and central air. Had to turn off A/C to run well pump. I’m hoping with a 9500 and the easy start I should be gtg.

What blows is I can’t imagine the size standby I’d need to have house run at full capacity like I’d want. The hot water heater alone pulls 100 amps.

Go with a tankless using Gas.  Uses almost no power.

fawk a tankless and all that it brings.  No thank you
Came with the house.... I’m finding this out. Thought it was cool at first. Already looking at switching range to gas maybe hot water will come along for the ride.

Tons of maintenance and sometimes expensive.  All kinds of issues with low flow.  Fuck em

And for the most part they dont save money

I flush it once a year.

Thats it.
right maybe  almost.

By flush he means descale sometimes with strong chemicals. Flow switch adjustment.  If gas you have all kinds of burner maintenance.  They are not place and forget

Yea, most think because it's gas "set and forget" like the "Ronco Rotisserie" - lol

Awesome thank you! Do those hurt water pressure?

Btw just ordered some flush and a pump. With the lack of maintenance on this house last 5 years can guarantee it hasn’t been done.

We ran our entire house on a 9000 Powerhorse from Northern Tool with this setup.  Minus the stove and dryer.

Until last summer when we were out for those 6 days and realized it doesn’t run the mini splits we had installed years after the genny purchase.

So the wife green lite this 20,000 bad boy.
Had to wait 8 months for it.  And with in the first week of it being install we lost power for about 5 hours.
I felt bad for the neighbors, so I turned the front porch light off.
