Never just a simple job...

People come and go, Rigs evolve and grow, but the one thing that never changes is there is never just a simple quick job when working on a vehicle....

Hi, its me

I said im just going to do a quick brake job on the ford, I got all new parts, from the hose to the rotor, so should be just an easy swap, rusty bolt worse I could encounter right??? WRONG

Watch YouTube, and read the boards best I can (a lot of great write ups and builds have been destroyed by the death of photo bucket)

Take off the hub so I can replace the rotor on the Dana 50, and go to inspect it and WOW needs a bit more than fresh grease and a new seal... So now adding to the brake job, I have a wheel bearing install... Ok no big deal, I go online and look up parts for the bearings, you can only get one set of bearings per store due to inventory... UGH. So on my way back from a family event I stop at Vernon, and Manchester to get the parts I ordered online. I have been out of the parts store game for awhile so I forgot the most important step.... checking to make sure you got the right parts.... They gave my a wrong part 387S vs the 387A I needed. Easy mistake, but a race for a dana 44 isnt going to work lol also (insert rant "where the fawk can you get Timkin made in USA bearings, do we have to outsource freaking everything" end rant)

So now the truck sits on jack stands while I try to source all the needed parts and reading up on install methods, which brings me to my current saga, I went down the worm hole of which wheel bearing grease is the best, and now im sitting here wasting time and mental energy on picking the best grease lol Do I use the classic Red N tacky or do I need to go out of my way to get this Super-Blu kind this one guy swears by... WTF has happened to the guy who drove his jeep all the way to Toms with one brake seized and the rears hardly operational, and would just send it on the trails... I miss him.. This new me sucks, and is high strung and lame.

Currently at work writing this and cleaning up the hubs, while I wait for amazon to deliver the seal and bearing installer kit

Sorry this is the best my non vip Tapatalk upload, can only do 1 photo for cooch like me

Oh man oh man! Good to see you%u2019re alive and kicking TWR!!

thank you sir, you as well!! Its good to be back on the boards. I can tell ya one thing, the EV boards suck lol

But ive got down the worm hole now of deciding Im going to do the ball joints since I have the hub off and it is a TTB dana 50 and they were done last 12+ years ago... Might as welll send off the PSOM in the gauge cluster too lol Its gonna be on Jack stands for awhile Im guessing

same exact thing happened to me a few years ago, went to do brakes on my truck and it snowballed into everything but ball joints.  I used red and tacky and had zero issues

I use Mobile 1 synthetic for everything.  It is the only grease I buy.

Thanks, I've quickly learned grease is like Beer, or oil... everyone has one they swear by lol Honestly before this, I thought grease was just that, now im all up to date on the codes for chassis lube vs wheel bearings.

I considered Royal purples or Valvoline's Cobalt. I looked at the Mobil 1, but I noticed it leaking even in the store, so I said nahh. To avoid going crazy im sticking with Red N tacky by Lucas for the bearings, and so I dont have to return anything else lol

Ive also ordered new ball joints, needle bearings, and gonna replace the pivot bushing while its stripped this far. Ill also paint the dust shields and knuckles. Ill inspect the u joints, but I'm thinking they should be good. Ive also pulled the cluster and im sending it off to have the PSOM rebuilt as I think that has been causing me intermittent shifting issues on the E4od.

Who are you kidding?

Better pop the body off and check the body mounts and the frame.

I wont be doing that, because I already know those body mounts are bad lol They actually make silicone ones now to replace the old rubber ones, they say that silicone is better than the rubber and the poly ones, but IDK lol

I've done all my cab mounts except the radiator supports.  I made the tool to remove them, not a horrible job to do.

Still got that tool? may wanna borrow it lol

Progress has been made,

New parts and tools have arrived,

Went with XRF Ball joints, painted the knuckles and installed those.

1 of 2 poly axle pivot bushings are in, waiting on some new pry bars to hopefully get the rear arm into place.

Going to install the new Race and bearings in the hub this Sunday at work… almost bought some new grease lol but decided it’s not worth it lol
Stumbled upon some Texas Refinery corp grease products and almost had to switch to my local home town stuff, but it’s 25 bucks a tube lol [emoji23]

Well BIG NEWS

Its back on the road. A simple brake job turned into a front end overhaul!!!

I ended up replacing all brake parts front and rear, new hoses, flushed the brake fluid, axle pivot bushings, Ball joints, wheel bearings and seals, new gear oil and RTV on front diff, vent hoses front and rear.

Also did some interior work, sent my PSOM to be rebuilt, new lens, and headlight connector and switch. Im going to install a headlight relay kit to avoid this from happening again

Gonna get new springs for the front end too I think.

Im glad I dont have a shop otherwise I think I would have said fawk this noise, and took tom offer up on those 06 superduty axle and started the swap by now
