New Radiator for the YJ

Need a new radiator, I have dealt with Radiator Barn in the past and they treated me very good so I am inclined to go there again?

I can get my company discount on an OEM unit at acme auto, but it will be the same as the original, with the crappy plastic tanks.

So, the question is, should I get the original 2 row core, or the HD 3 row core?

I do tow with this jeep and it does idle at the trails a lot, so the natural thought would be a 3 row, however I am also concerned that it may cool to much and affect the ECM. Anyone know how advanced the 95 was for relying on engine temp for engine performance?

No such thing as Detour pointed out. You can NEVER had too much radiator. For the extra $30.00, put in the HD. If the HD was twice the money or something crazy, i'd say skip it, but for $30 it's hard to argue.

I agree, go with the heavy duty one.

If you are cheap you can crack an egg into the radiator and it will seal the leak. 8)

Go with the bigger radiator.

He's gonna need a 1/2 dozen eggs and black pepper for his old radiator.

for a difference of only$27.47, I would go with the 3 row. Better cooling for only a few bucks more.

I have a 3 core in my '92 4 popper YJ. I've never had any problems. Spend the extra $ and upgrade.

Well my YJ is at 100K and the radiator is just now biting it. As for the two you mentioned, they are both Aluminum radiator companies, which cost a pretty fortune. I usually stay away from them being a stick can ruin a $400 radiator just as easy as a $150 radiator.

As for aftermarket, there are two kinds, OEM style, which has the to tanks at each side made of plastic which is crimped to the metal Radiator. These types are prone to failure from 60 to 100K. After years of expansion and contraction from the heat the tanks usually start to leak. I always stay away from this kind.

The other is the all metal, they use all the same material through out, they are same thing that radiators have been since their invention. However there are some really cheap import companies out there, but the general rule is in the after market radiator, CSF is a pretty good company. That is also what Radiator Barn uses for Jeeps, and also the cheapest.

I have a stock replacement (w/ metal tanks) and a flexlite fan (eliminated the belt driven fan). Idles all day long and sits at 180. I have the fan on a switch and only use it in the summer or on the trail. Day to day driving, I don't even switch it on.

Yeah I was planning on doing the 3 core, but as usual I read somewhere about it being an advantage...

thats what you get for reading.... ](*,)
